Award Springaren 2008 : mat en 2 coups.

First I would like to thank Rolf Uppström for giving me the opportunity to make this judgement. I had 37 2-movers to judge, all published in 2008 in Springaren. Among them 10-12 were light like miniatures and I couldn’t consider including them in this award. This could have been a bit of shame, because you don’t always need a heavy setting to show some brilliant idea. Still these problems didn’t show anything new and exceptional, and I leave them out of the award.
11210 : would have been in the award otherwise, but the only thematic try has two refutations, so to my opinion the whole problem loses totally the idea it is trying to show. 11273 : has a checking key and it doesn’t show anything new. 11336 : I examined both this problem and Ahues’ own problem which was shown with solutions. These two problems have almost identical content although the composer has made a switch between try and key. Well, as usual when something is judged, the judge’s own opinions and affection to a certain kind of problems also will show.

Commentaire du juge :
Knight wheel. (Only Sg3 is missing !). Beautiful play by Black : 3 x black is blocking his own line-piece line to the mating square, 2 x square clearance and 2 x sacrifice to open the line for white battery. Very light setting in this kind of problem. Relatively good key, but no actual tries at all.
